For many small businesses, this time of year can feel like several pressures arriving at once.
Summer holiday requests begin increasing, staffing levels become harder to manage, sickness absence continues to impact workloads, and employers are also trying to keep up with wider employment developments and workplace expectations.
At the same time, many smaller businesses are dealing with difficult people situations without dedicated HR teams or large internal support structures. Workplace investigations, holiday disputes and absence concerns can quickly become stressful when managers are already juggling multiple responsibilities.
The good news is that many of these issues become far easier to manage when businesses focus on consistency, communication and good preparation rather than reacting once problems escalate.
