It’s easy to think about data protection and GDPR just in terms of marketing to your customers, but the legislation actually covers much more than that – including the people who work for you – your employees.
It goes without saying that if you have employees then you also have access to a lot of their personal and sensitive personal information and with that comes a huge amount of responsibility. Personnel and HR records fall within the data protection regulations, and there are specific rules around collecting, using and storing employee personal information – its down to you as the employer to protect your employees’ fundamental rights. And that’s not all, it is your responsibility to make sure that all your employees understand what is expected of them when it comes to protecting the customer and employee personal information in your business.
